Man arrested after stabbing and carjacking

A 50-year-old, two-time felon was caught after stabbing someone with a stolen pair of scissors and carjacking a vehicle with a little boy inside it, Las Vegas police said.

Marlon Collins faces multiple charges after a Saturday morning crime spree that started in the 5900 block of Spring Mountain Road about 8:30 a.m.

Collins is accused of trying to rob a woman using a pair of scissors stolen from a nearby pharmacy.

Collins tussled with the woman and cut her hand, police said.

He then approached a woman who was sitting in a car. He forced her out of the car as she pleaded with him to allow her to get her son out of the back seat, police said.

Collins then sped away in the car with the child inside, police said.

An off-duty police officer from the Southwest Area Command happened onto the scene and chased the vehicle while calling 911 on his cell phone.

At Charleston and Decatur boulevards Collins fled from the car on foot, police said. The off-duty officer went to the boy and stayed with him to make sure he was safe.

A police helicopter soon located Collins and he was arrested, police said.

Collins was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for robbery with a deadly weapon, first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon, and battery with a deadly weapon.

He twice has been convicted of felony burglary in Nevada, police said.
