Poets gather for reading at local arts center

Some of Las Vegas' most talented poets as well as open mic participants will gather for an evening of readings at the West Las Vegas Arts Center's Poets' Corner on Friday.

Keith Brantley hosts the event, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The arts center, located at 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. is operated by the Arts & Community Events Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services.

In addition to the Poets' Corner, which takes place the third Friday of every month, the center is the site of numerous culturally-focused activities, from films to special events. Classes in African arts, dance, music and more are available for both children and adults.

Coming Sept. 29, is a drum and dance workshop with Dr. Zakarya Diouf, whose knowledge of African music and tribal dancing began as a child in Senegal.

The free program begins at 1 p.m.
