Deadline approaches for Governor’s Arts Awards

Applications from artists for the Governor's Arts Awards visual arts competition must be submitted by Oct. 5.

Nevada visual artists can now submit entries for the Nevada Arts Council's annual competition.

A state artist will be awarded $3,500 to create seven original works of art. Six pieces will be presented as awards to the 28th annual Governor's Arts Awards recipients in the spring of 2008, and one will be placed in the council's permanent collection.

Previous commissions have included a variety of media that exemplifies the diversity of Nevada's artists. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, and not be a degree-seeking student.

Applications can be downloaded at the Nevada Arts Council website at www.nevadaculture.org.

For more information, call the council at (775) 687-6680.
