HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $12,000, Claiming $10,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Eden Simone - Her speed may be too much in a no passing zone field; her race two back is fast enough to win by daylight.
O Bee Naki - Appears to have the best shot among the closers in the group; close up second to Eden Simone two races ago.
Long Shot - She's Some Wagon
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Runaway Wondercat - Did a classic pop and stop last time off a year hiatus; should go a lot further in tonight's tussle.
Toppers Dream - Dead late closer is sight unseen in 6-months; like that top jockey Baze is taking the call for Gutierrez.
Long Shot - Oh I Tripped
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
Beltline Jack - Closer has plenty of back class where a repeat performance is possible; Metz is a very underrated trainer.
Polo Bender - Speedball should be ready to fire his best shot in third start off a two month hiatus; simple tactics here.
Long Shot - Denied
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $42,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Jane Doe - You have to see her last race to believe the ride she got; curious that her uncoupled stablemate won easily.
Witchy Meeting - Been away 7-months but she exited a key race; has been training well and has more talent than you think.
Long Shot - P Town Princess
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $33,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Formal Rush - Good finish last time and the drop in class will help her; look for a square price in a wide open affair.
Karlee's Kitten - Tepid chalk beat my choice two races back; should enjoy the class relief from her last allowance try.
Long Shot - Categorize
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Intangaroo - Just missed last time in a superb effort; if she runs back to that, she'll beat these by daylight.
Tiger On The Loose - Frankel is starting the meet softly, but expect noise pretty soon; Gomez only riding the live ones.
Long Shot - Kalamata
Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $33,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Quasimodo - Canani puts up the white flag as he drops him into for a price tag; still he appears much better than these.
Sacred Light - Was scratched the other day for this easier spot; thought he would have improved more since being gelded.
Long Shot - Ocean Grand
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Exactly - Ran fast enough last time to beat these more often than not; this is the slowest group that he's ever faced.
Kickin Back - Speedball is the main upset possibility; been away 6-months, fresh horse may decide not to stop tonight.
Long Shot - Premier Won
Best Bet - Quasimodo (race 7)
Hollywood Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/2/$15.60; Long Shots, 6/2/$35.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals - 114/21/$139.80; Long Shots, 56/12/$134.80; Best Bets, 7/2/$6.20
