Forest Service reopens some trails closed by Carpenter 1 fire
Three hiking trails that were shut down in the Spring Mountains after the Carpenter 1 Fire in 2013 have reopened, according to the U.S Forest Service.
Cathedral Rock, Echo and Little Falls trails are no longer closed, the Forest Service said. However, the South Loop Trail from the junction of Cathedral Rock Trail to the Charleston Peak, and Griffith Peak Trail are still closed.
“We want to remind visitors that the area is still recovering from a major wildfire, so we ask people to be aware of potential hazard trees or modified trail surfaces,” said recreation officer Del Orme, of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, in a news release Thursday.
A blaze sparked by lightning burned about 43 square miles of trees and brush starting on July 1, 2013, and threatened cabins in Kyle Canyon. It burned until snow packed the mountains that December.
