Allegiant Travel reports rise in passenger count in February
Allegiant Travel Co. racked up a sharp increase in flying time during February.
The Las Vegas-based airline and travel booking company carried 533,000 passengers during the month on both charter and regularly scheduled flights, 19.6 percent more than the same month a year ago. Meanwhile, the capacity as measured in the number of miles each seat spent in the air rose 22.7 percent, driving down the occupancy rate by 1.5 points from a year ago to 87.9 percent.
The number of flights rose 17.7 percent.
Moreover, management from Allegiant Travel, which operates flier Allegiant Air, projected that the pace would pick up this month, with the number of flights rising 21 percent and the number of seat miles flown rising 27 percent, signaling a longer average flight length.
During February, Allegiant paid an average $3.43 a gallon for jet fuel, 17 cents a gallon more than a year ago.
