Ameristar to curtail smoke inside its casinos

Ameristar Casinos announced Tuesday it would place air filtration systems on gambling tables in its riverboat gaming markets to give customers cleaner air.

It’s doubtful, however, the move will be enough to satisfy rabid anti-smoking activists, who want smoking banned all together inside casinos.

Ameristar will install Smoke Away Systems' air filtration units into gaming tables, including blackjack, baccarat, craps and roulette.

Las Vegas-based Ameristar operates regional casinos in Missouri, Mississippi, Iowa, Colorado, Indiana and Northeastern Nevada.

The Smoke Away units vacuum tobacco smoke before reaching the ambient environment. The smoke is put through a patented filter process, and the result is an additional improvement in indoor air comfort.

"All of our properties have state-of-the-art air filtration systems," Ameristar Chief Executive Officer Gordon Kanofsky said in a statement. "With the comfort of our team members and guests being of utmost importance, we are pleased to adopt this additional new technology as a corporate standard."
