Boyd’s Biloxi property lays off workers

IP Casino has laid off employees at its Biloxi gambling house.

General Manager Jack Bernsmeier told The Sun Herald that the layoffs were modest and was "in the dozens."

Bernsmeier says the layoffs this week were across all departments. He says those workers can apply for jobs at 16 Boyd Gaming Corp. casinos in six states.

Boyd operates Sam's Town in Tunica and resorts in Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey, Illinois and Indiana.

Bernsmeier says the layoffs at IP were a matter of "rightsizing" the number of employees and eliminating a duplication of services.

IP was a stand-alone property when Boyd Gaming bought it last year, and Bernsmeier says staff at some of the other Boyd Gaming properties can provide services to the IP.
