Porter, Gordon Silver partner in new venture

Former Nevada congressman Jon Porter and the Las Vegas-based law firm of Gordon Silver have formed a business development and government affairs firm with offices in Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Reno and Phoenix.

Porter Gordon Silver Communications will lobby for domestic and international clients at all levels of government as well as assisting on business expansion and other development opportunities.

Porter, who formerly represented Nevada's 3rd Congressional District, will merge his own lobbying business with Gordon Silver, which represents some of Nevada's top gaming and development companies. The firm's principals are Jerry Gordon and Jeff Silver.

Porter has lobbied for gaming industry since leaving Congress at the end of 2008. He recently worked with the Poker Players Alliance, which has been seeking federal legalization of Internet poker.

Attorney Sean Higgins, a partner in Gordon Silver, will be firm's chief operating officer. Higgins spent 17 years as the in-house counsel for the Herbst Cos., which included Herbst Gaming and the petroleum industry.

Political consultant and lobbyist Mike Sullivan will join the firm as director of state government affairs.

Higgins and Sullivan both have lobbied at the Nevada Legislature.
