COMING IN THIS WEEK’S BUSINESS PRESS

THE BEST LAID PLANS ... : Some blueprints from the first Southern Nevada Business Plan Competition became businesses while others didn't. The finalists' varied experiences illustrate what entrepreneurs have long known: A well-constructed business plan hardly guarantees sales and positive cash flow.

GENES? GENIUS!: The DNA Shop, which opened in mid-May, offers do-it-yourself genetic testing kits, designed to assess people's vulnerability to medical conditions ranging from Alzheimer's to restless leg syndrome.

THIS WEEK'S BUSINESS PRESS POLL QUESTION

Log onto the Las Vegas Business Press website and let us hear your opinion on this week's question.

An Aug. 13 column in The Wall Street Journal by Brett Arends, who covers investing, offered 10 reasons why market watchers and investors should be cautious going into September. Among these: the still-unfolding foreclosure crisis -- 1 million this year; stocks remain overvalued; there's too much bullishness (get in when there's gloom, get out when there's not?); deflation is here while debt remains high; and, finally, post-Labor Day historically witnesses a nasty correction, sometimes a crash. Also, it was reported in multiple business portals last week that the stock market witnessed a Hindenburg Omen (look it up), which predicts a serious imbalance in the marketplace.

Do you think the business press is onto something, such as a
pending double dip or stock market crash?
