Completion of $43 million expansion of carpenters training center announced

The PENTA Building Group announced Thursday completion of its $43 million expansion of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America International Training Center at 6801 Placid St. in Las Vegas.

The new 220,000-square-foot addition to the facility will be used to provide training resources for members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. In addition to shop space, the training center expansion contains more than 30 classrooms, two large meeting halls, and a display area and museum. The entire structure, including the adjoining existing space, is about 365,000 square feet.

The new South Shop facility includes an 80,000-square-foot shop space, including an area for scaffolding construction and a 30-by-60-foot retractable roof. The campus also offers training on interior systems, gas and steam turbine installation and maintenance, and other forms of commercial and industrial construction.

Work on the expansion began in September 2012 and was completed a year later. About 200 workers were involved at the peak of construction. An opening ceremony is slated for early 2014.
