Electronics expo gate debate, Super Bowl ads to love or hate in Net Notes

The debate over allowing the public in to the world's biggest gadgetfest, a look at Super Bowl commercial and a new online comics feature fill today's version of Net Notes.

Last week I proposed that the public should have its day at the annual International Consumer Electronics Show, and reader Ken Jarvis agreed. He told me in an e-mail exchange he wouldn't pay an admission fee because "they (the exhibitors) are trying to sell us stuff. But I would pay for the stuff I get." He added that he suspected many of those who do traverse the show floor aisles "come away with a bag full of stuff they later probably throw away unread."

Two dollars is Jarvis' limit for buying that "stuff," which for me usually consists of glossy information sheets, sometimes tucked into nice presentation folders and perhaps a few tchotchkes.

I want to hear from you. Would you be willing to pay an admission fee for a day at CES, and if so, how much? Do you agree with the "pay for stuff instead" model proposed by Jarvis, or do you have another idea? Send me an e-mail with "CES" as the subject . I'll share the best replies in a future column or blog post.

Super Bowl commercials

The Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers square off today, but lots of folks find the commercials more compelling than the game. This site has 10 years of archives, so carve out some time to reminisce over Bud Bowls and Cindy Crawford pitching Pepsi.

If you're looking for a good laugh, or two, or 62, be sure to stop by the new comics feature on the reviewjournal.com site. We've partnered with King Features Syndicate to bring you many longtime favorites like Beetle Bailey and Blondie and several recent funny pages hits like Zippy the Pinhead and Bizarro. We'll soon be adding a weekly comics caption feature that puts the pen in your hands. Readers can register to leave comments, rate their favorites and share comics via e-mail.

I'll give you a heads up when the caption feature is live here and on my blog: (www.lvrj.com/blogs/onlineguy).
