NV Energy customers face smart meter deadline

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has scheduled a December workshop covering smart meters.

To participate, consumers must file written comments with the commission before the workshop. The agency is asking for comments by Nov. 18 regarding meter safety, security, accuracy and installation.

NV Energy, which is installing about 1.5 million smart meters statewide as part of its NV Energize initiative, have until Dec. 2 to respond to the comments.

The workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 6 at the commission's offices, 9075 W. Diablo Drive, Suite 250. The commission is evaluating consumer concerns about smart-meter health and security. NV Energy has installed more than 500,000 meters, with 1,400 consumers asking to be placed on the company's installation-postponement list.

The commission has a web page with information about smart meters. Go to puc.nv.gov and click on the "Smart Meters" option in the menu on the left.

To submit comments for the workshop, deliver a written statement in person or via mail to the commission. Consumers can also file statements electronically by going to the commission's website, clicking on "Administration" and choosing the "Electronic Filing System" option.
