Federal Aviation Administration to hold meetings on Las Vegas airspace

The Federal Aviation Administration will hold the first of three public meetings tonight to take comments on adjusting the airspace over Las Vegas.

The changes involved what is termed Class B airspace, where planes must use navigation devices known as transponders to avoid midair collisions.

The current layout was devised four decades ago and there are now patches where planes exit and re-enter Class B on normal flight paths.

The changes would be noticeable only to pilots and would not involve changes such as shifting landing paths over different neighborhoods.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at Centennial High School, 10200 Centennial Parkway in Las Vegas.

Two other sessions will start at the same time on Aug. 23 at Coronado High School, 1001 Coronado Center Drive in Henderson, and Aug. 25 at Shadow Ridge High School, 5050 Brent Lane in Las Vegas.
