Flight attendants union takes aim at Allegiant

Members of the Transport Workers Union stepped up their pressure on Allegiant Travel Co. by handing leaflets to passengers on two flights to Hawaii over the weekend.

The Transport Workers Union was elected two years ago to represent the flight attendants on the company's Allegiant Air unit. But progress in negotiating the initial contract has been slow in recent months.

On inaugural flights from Boise, Idaho, and Spokane, Wash., to Honolulu, nonemployee union representatives walked the aisles of the planes handing out fliers that poked at Allegiant's practice of quickly ending routes or service to cities that do not meet financial goals.

"Will Allegiant be there for you in the future? We hope so!" the flier said.

Two Honolulu sheriffs deputies met the flight from Spokane but made no arrests.

"The negotiations have hit a rough spot and this is their way of responding," Allegiant spokeswoman Jessica Wheeler said. "We believe our time is better spent attacking the issues, rather than each other."
