Job placement firm to hold annual job-advice call-in event
Chicago job-placement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas will hold its 25th annual call-in event on Monday and Tuesday.
The company will suspend its normal operations to provide free job-search advice to callers from across the country. Interested job hunters can call 312-422-5010 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time.
For the first time, the company will have a group of job-search counselors dedicated to taking calls from current and former military personnel.
"Those making the transition from military service to the civilian workforce face a unique set of challenges," said John Challenger, chief executive officer of Challenger, Gray & Christmas. "Most of them possess all these great skills learned through their service, but many struggle to articulate how those skills translate in non-military careers.
In the six-month period ended Sept. 30, employers hired 25.7 million workers, according the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But unemployment remains stubbornly high because total separations, including voluntary and involuntary separations, totaled 25.4 million in the same period. That means the net change in overall employment was about 300,000, Challenger noted.
