Local Realtors group names new chief executive officer

Nelson Janes was named chief executive officer of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors on Wednesday, taking over for Irene Vogel, who retired after more than 30 years of running the association.

Janes, who starts work May 7, was most recently chief executive of the Realtors association in Sacramento, Calif. Before 2002, he was executive vice president of associations in Philadelphia and in Albuquerque, N.M.

He holds several professional real estate designations, an undergraduate degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a master's degree from Virginia Tech.

He began his career as a writer and editor for Time. From there, he became director of education for the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors and its foundation, then rose to the position of deputy executive vice president for the organization based in Washington, D.C.

Search committee Chairman Devin Reiss said Janes has extensive experience as a legislative advocate and brings a fresh perspective on tactics to improve service to association members and customers. Contact reporter Hubble Smith at hsmith@reviewjournal.com or 702-383-0491.
