LVCVA approves expenditures for shows, sponsorships

The mood was light Tuesday as the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board met for its last meeting of the year.

After a short presentation by the tourism board's senior vice president of marketing Cathy Tull, board members unanimously approved a $118,000 expenditure to exhibit at the International Tourism Bourse in Berlin, Germany.

"It continues to be a really good show for us," Tull told the board.

Estimated expenses to exhibit at the show are up from 2010's cost of $96,000, which Tull said is a result of increased exhibit space.

Then, in an equally quick vote, the board approved an estimated expenditure of $300,000 to sponsor the 2012 Big League Weekend Series. The weekend is estimated to bring in revenues of $110,000, resulting in an estimated net cost of $190,000.

Finally, the board approved $100,000 to sponsor the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce's customer service excellence program for 2012. The tourism board has been a co-sponsor since 1987.
