Passenger count grows in quarter for Allegiant Travel

Allegiant Travel Co. posted double-digit-percentage passenger growth in April.

The Las Vegas-based airline and travel booking company carried 596,369 passengers during the month on both charter and regularly scheduled flights, a 22.2 percent gain from the same month a year ago.

Meanwhile, capacity as measured in the number of miles each seat spent in the air increased 24.5 percent, while driving down the occupancy rate 1.9 percent, to 89.5 percent.

During the month, Allegiant Travel, the parent of Allegiant Air, paid an average of $3.52 a gallon for jet fuel, down 2 cents from April 2011.
