Stephens Media to publish Boulder City weekly paper
October 23, 2009 - 9:00 pm
Stephens Media, owner of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, is launching a weekly newspaper in Boulder City.
The Boulder City Review, which will make its debut Thursday, aims to be the community's primary news and information source.
"Boulder City is a politically and socially active community that deserves a good newspaper of its own," said Sherman Frederick, president of Stephens Media. "The Boulder City Review will strive to deliver all the news, information and commentary that the city thirsts for."
The announcement of the Boulder City Review came just one day after the news Greenspun Media Group would close the Boulder City News, which had been published since 1937. Greenspun Media also closed the Henderson Home News, which was established in 1951.
The Review-Journal has published a View neighborhood section in Boulder City for several years. The Boulder City View section will cease operations after next week.
"Boulder City is one of the most intriguing communities in Nevada, providing no shortage of great material to write about," said Geoff Schumacher, Stephens Media's director of community publications, who is overseeing the new paper. "Once we have our staff in place, we will be on top of everything from political controversies to school events. A true community newspaper must cover it all."
