RENO -- The Nevada Commission on Tourism is revealing three finalists for the role of state tourism director.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/qXonLc ) commissioners on Monday said Claudia Vecchio, Frank Nocera and acting tourism director Larry Friedman are top candidates.

Gov. Brian Sandoval will choose between the three finalists. The position pays a base salary of $114,104.

Nocera has served as chief of the nonprofit Visit Florida organization from 1997 to 2009.

Vecchio is the former director of tourism for Ohio and now serves as president of a Dallas-based tourism and economic development marketing firm.

Officials are timing the final selection with the launch of the new state Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Oct. 1.

Legislators approved the new department this spring to consolidate several state tourism and cultural affairs agencies.
