20-year-old faces sentencing today for fatal 2009 crash

A sentencing hearing was continued to today for a 20-year-old man who pleaded guilty in a drunken driving crash that killed a Las Vegas woman in November 2009.

Judge Doug Smith remanded Kevin Miranda to jail while he waited 24 hours to learn the length of his sentence. Smith said Miranda is going to go to prison, but didn't say for how long.

Angela Nichole Peterson, 24, was killed when her car was hit by a truck driven by Miranda, who ran a stoplight.

Las Vegas police said Peterson was making a legal left turn onto Rainbow Boulevard from Flamingo Road shortly after 1 a.m. Nov. 29, 2009, when her Pontiac Sunfire was hit by Kevin Miranda's 2008 Dodge Ram.
