Argument may have led to man’s killing

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 43-year-old man who reportedly had an argument with an off-duty security guard and was shot Saturday night at an apartment complex near Tropicana Avenue and Jones Boulevard, Las Vegas police said.

No arrest has been made.

Thomas Rudolph Mallard was shot in the abdomen around 10:30 p.m. at the Foothill Village Apartments in the 6200 block of Tropicana Avenue and died at
1:09 a.m. Sunday at University Medical Center, Las Vegas police spokesman Jose Hernandez said.

"The case is under investigation," Hernandez said. "We're going to submit everything to the DA's office and see where it goes from there."

When officers arrived, they found Mallard bleeding outside one of the buildings in apartment complex.

An off-duty security guard was identified as a "person of interest." Because the investigation is ongoing, Las Vegas police could not elaborate on what led to the shooting .
