Bus driver cleared in fatal March accident

Las Vegas police have cleared a school bus driver of wrongdoing in the March accident that killed an 11-year-old girl.

Police said Leslie Rice, the bus driver, was not at fault. The child, Kaylee Derks, stepped off the curb and was crushed by the rear wheels of the bus in what police spokesman Marcus Martin called an "unfortunate accident."

The child was killed after being dropped off after school in front of her northwest valley neighborhood March 16. Rice dropped her off and drove into the neighborhood.

He made his first right turn, and the girl was struck. After the accident, the Clark County School District changed the bus route so that it wouldn't enter the neighborhood.
