Car kills pedestrian walking on sidewalk in Henderson

A 71-year-old man was killed in Henderson Friday morning after he was struck by a car that left the road.

The man, whose name was not released, was walking on a sidewalk on Hampton Road near Point Pleasant Drive in Sun City Anthem at 7:15 a.m.

He was hit by a 2008 Jeep Commander driven by Chester F. Budd, 78, of Henderson, who drove off the road , Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul said.

The victim was carried a short distance after being hit and died at the scene.

Police are investigating the crash and have not charged Budd. They don't believe the incident was caused by speeding or alcohol use, Paul said.
