Coroner: Man struck, killed by ambulance was a suicide
The death of a 46-year-old man who was struck by an ambulance in North Las Vegas last month was a suicide, authorities said Tuesday.
The Clark County coroner reported that Carlos J. Hernandez died of multiple injuries when he was struck about 8 p.m. April 22 on busy East Lake Mead Boulevard.
North Las Vegas police officer Chrissie Coon said the coroner found Hernandez had a high blood-alcohol content when he was struck by the ambulance as it traveled with lights and siren to a medical call. Coon wouldn't specify the amount.
She said the ambulance wasn't speeding.
Hernandez wasn't in a crosswalk. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The driver and paramedic in the ambulance tried to revive Hernandez before police and Fire Department paramedics arrived.
