Four minors in critical condition following rollover crash

An SUV carrying six people, apparently involved in a hit-and-run moments earlier, crashed into a pillar outside of the Springs Preserve on Valley View Boulevard on Saturday, injuring four children critically, Las Vegas police said.

Lt. John Liberty said the driver was a minor who, according to eyewitness reports, hit a vehicle parked outside the Toys R Us store at Meadows Mall, then fled the scene and was apparently trying to hide inside the Springs Preserve.

The rollover occurred at 3:37 p.m., and the fatal detail, which conducts investigations into major wrecks, was on scene early Saturday evening.

Valley View Boulevard was closed for several hours as police investigated the accident, which sent four children, ages 4 to 17, to the University Medical Center’s trauma unit, police said.

“It crashed into the pillar next to the front gate, then flipped over,” Liberty said of the accident.

The condition of the driver and one passenger were unknown, he said.
