Guatemala immigrant sentenced in Bullhead City slaying
An illegal immigrant from Guatemala was given a 16-year prison sentence Friday for killing another man who had an affair with his girlfriend in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle sentenced Carlos Gomez, 25, who previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Prosecutor Jeremy Huss said Gomez stole a handgun from his employer and planned to kill his romantic rival, Daniel Lopez, 39. He said Gomez laid in wait and shot Lopez four times while Lopez was out for a run in February 2011.
Gomez faces likely deportation once he completes his prison sentence.
