Henderson officer lauded for saving toddler
A Henderson police officer helped saved an 18-month-old girl's life Sunday by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her after she was pulled from a backyard pool, Henderson police said Monday.
The incident occurred at 12:30 p.m. at a home on the 900 block of Buffalo River, near Magic Way and Boulder Highway.
Police said Officer Eric Tschirgi arrived at the home and found the child's grandmother performing CPR on her. Tschirgi then took over and instructed the grandmother to give emergency breathing as he did chest compressions.
Because of the officer's and grandmother's actions, the child started to move and make noise. Henderson Fire Department personnel arrived and continued the emergency treatment on the girl. She was crying and moving by the time she was hospitalized.
The girl's prognosis was good Monday, police said.
Henderson police Chief James White lauded Tschirgi's actions.
"There is no doubt that Officer Tschirgi's quick response and actions helped save the life of this young girl," White said in a prepared statement. "I am very proud of the great work that our officers do every day."
