ID sought for human remains found west of Las Vegas
Authorities are trying to identify human remains found in a desert area west of Las Vegas earlier this week.
The bones were found Sunday night near Mule Spring, north of state Route 160 and about 30 miles west of central Las Vegas.
The Clark County coroner's office recovered the remains Monday.
Assistant Coroner John Fudenberg said the remains had been there for at least several months and were discovered by either a hiker or a hunter.
A forensic orthodontist will try to identify the remains using dental records, he said. A DNA profile will also be taken.
"At this point we don't have any leads as far as who it is," Fudenberg said. "Identifying will certainly be a challenge."
It's unclear how the person died or if foul play was involved.
