Las Vegas man gets prison for 2010 robberies

James Henderson Haines, a Las Vegas man who robbed three banks and five other businesses at gunpoint in two weeks last November, was sentenced Thursday to nearly two decades in federal prison.

U.S. District Judge James Mahan sentenced Haines to 19½ years in prison.

Haines, 37, pleaded guilty in July to three counts of bank robbery and five counts of interference with commerce by robbery.

U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said in a news release that Haines has multiple prior felony convictions in Clark County, some involving the use of firearms.

Haines robbed three banks, three insurance companies, one travel agency and a grocery store in Las Vegas during the two weeks in November, Bogden said.

In all of the robberies, he brandished a gun, sometimes grabbing victims.

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
