Las Vegas police return fire on suspect

A man was arrested early Monday morning after shooting at a Las Vegas police officer near the 4300 block of Charleston Boulevard, according to police.

Officers were responding to three separate reports of convenience store robberies.

The first was reported around 1:30 a.m. at the 6300 block of Lake Mead Boulevard. The second was reported around 1:40 a.m. in the 4600 block of Charleston Boulevard.

The third, just after 1:40 a.m., was reported at a convenience store in the 4300 block of Charleston Boulevard. When police arrived, officers witnessed an altercation in the parking lot.

One of the men ran behind the store and fired at police, striking a patrol car. The officer returned fire, but no one was injured.

The man was arrested in connection to the shooting, but not the robberies.

According to police, a second suspect might have fled on foot. Police interviewed a person of interest but have not connected him to any of the robberies.

The officers' identities will be released 48 hours after the shooting, per department policy.
