Lawsuit challenges latest Nevada abortion initiative

CARSON CITY -- A new lawsuit is challenging the latest personhood initiative that seeks to ban abortions in Nevada.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in state court in Carson City argues the "prenatal person" initiative is confusing and doesn't adequately explain to voters the effect it would have on birth control or other medical procedures.

The proposed constitutional amendment pushed by a group called the Nevada Prolife Coalition would ban birth control, embryonic stem cell research, in vitro fertilization or other procedures that intentionally kill a fetus.

No exceptions are made to allow abortions for pregnancies that occur from rape or incest.
