Lawyer gets two years for tax evasion

Charles C. Lobello, a local lawyer, was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay restitution, after being sentenced Monday for tax evasion, according to U.S. Attorney Daniel G. Bogden.

LoBello, 52, who practiced business and personal injury law, pleaded guilty in July to one count of tax evasion in 2002. In his plea, he admitted to owing an additional $260,625 in income taxes between 2001 and 2005.

Court records indicate Lobello concealed more than $900,000 in income from the United States, intentionally reported incomplete information to his tax preparers, and used his personal checking accounts to hide large checks he recieved as legal fees.

He is the brother of Mark LoBello, a Las Vegas lawyer who received a 15-month prison sentence in 2008 after pleading guilty to tax evasion.

The case was prosecuted by lawyers with the Justice Department's Tax Division in Washington.
