Man arrested in Craig Road slaying

A 31-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in a northeast valley shooting that left one man dead.

Carl Anthony Joshua Jr. was arrested on a murder with a deadly weapon charge in the Saturday killing of Christopher Simon Jr., 23.

According to his arrest report, Joshua, whose first name is also spelled as Karl in the report, was identified by a witness of the shooting out of a photo lineup. Police also said that cellphone records linked Joshua to near the slaying scene about the time of shooting.

Las Vegas police found Simon's body about 3:50 a.m. in the 4700 block of Craig Road, near Nellis Boulevard. Simon had been shot in the head and several times in the upper torso.

Witnesses told police the shooter left the scene in a white Lincoln Continental.

Detectives learned that Joshua had been shot several times in July, and that he thought Simon was one of the potential suspects. The report said Joshua was unwilling to prosecute.

When investigators located Joshua, he denied his involvement in the shooting. However, he couldn't explain why a witness identified him in a photo lineup and why his cellphone was tracked to near the slaying during the time of the shooting. Joshua said he believed he was at his home during the shooting but couldn't remember because he was drinking and had passed out.
