Man arrested in gang-related homicide
A 23-year-old man has been arrested on a murder charge after a fight between gang members last month left one person dead.
Las Vegas police on Tuesday arrested Ronald Stampley, 23, in the death of Kary Wells, 37.
According to witnesses, Wells was barbecuing with neighbors at an apartment complex on Charleston Boulevard near Mojave Road when two men approached and asked him if he was a member of the Bloods gang.
“Did I hear you say you were a Blood?” one of the men asked.
“I used to be, “ Wells replied, according a witness statement in a police report.
Stampley punched Wells, who then fell to the ground, was unable to break his fall and struck his head, a witness told police. Another witness told police Stampley punched Wells at least three times and then stomped his head as Wells tried to sit up.
The witness told police Stampley also claimed to be a member of the Bloods, a gang that originated in Los Angeles in the ‘70s.
Wells was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where he died.
