Man convicted of killing uncle with drinking glass

A Long Beach, Calif., man was convicted Friday of second-degree murder in the November 2011 death of his uncle in Lake Havasu City.

Jeffrey Costa, 45, said he used a heavy drinking glass to beat Wayne Lopez, 62, in self defense after the two went out for drinks and had an argument in Lopez’s home.

Prosecutor Jeremy Huss said Costa fled the scene and returned to California in the victim’s vehicle.

Lopez died from blunt force trauma caused by multiple skull fractures and brain damage, according to the prosecution.

A Mohave County jury deliberated a little more than an hour before returning the guilty verdict. Lopez faces up to 22 years in prison.
