Man in wheelchair stabbed to death, suspect in custody

A 45-year-old man was arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man in a wheelchair, according to a Las Vegas police report released Monday.

Police said Louis Dwayne Marks pummeled Abram Alexander on Friday night at H Street and Weaver Avenue in the central valley.

Marks attacked Alexander, throwing him to the ground, stomping on him and then hitting him with his own electric wheelchair in front of several witnesses, the report said.

"The crowd had gathered around victim Alexander, who was lying in the gutter in a large pool of blood with an electric wheelchair lying on top of him," the report said.

Marks punched a woman who tried to intervene. A man then chased Marks toward Owens Avenue, where he was detained by police.

The attack occurred about 8:40 p.m. The report said Alexander died at University Medical Center less than an hour later. It said stab wounds led to his death.

Marks told investigators he didn't remember attacking Alexander. He said he drank alcohol, smoked marijuana and used the drug PCP earlier in the night as he attended a wake at the Elks Lodge on H and Owens.

He told police that he usually carried a blue pocketknife in his right pocket but that it was missing.

A blue folding knife stained with blood was found near the damaged wheelchair.

Police said Marks' hands and clothes had blood on them.

Marks told police he did not know how blood got on his clothes.

He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Saturday on the recommended charge of murder with a deadly weapon.

He was being held without bail and was scheduled for court today.
