Man survives serious fall at Red Rock

A 61-year-old man who fell between 80 feet to 100 feet at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on Wednesday night survived the fall almost unscathed, Las Vegas police said.

Lt. Barb Schmidt said the unidentified hiker fell in the area of White Rock Springs' Angel Food Wall at about
6:20 p.m. She called the man's survival "astonishing."

"He has a cut over his eyes that might need some stitches. ... But that's it," Schmidt said.

A rescue crew was sent to look for the man. Schmidt said it would take the crew about two hours to get him out of the remote location, but because his injuries are not life-threatening, there was no hurry Wednesday night.
