Marijuana cafe shut down in northwest Arizona

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A cannabis cafe complete with a customer counter, posted menu and brownies has been shut down in northwest Arizona.

Residents suspicious of a Bullhead City home drawing lots of traffic led police to an illegal marijuana business, according to city police officials.

Police spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said investigators smelled marijuana and observed evidence of cultivation as they arrived Thursday at the home in the 2300 block of Red Rock Road.

“The residence had a customer counter with a business hours sign and menu posted,” Fromelt said. “Customers could buy marijuana, drug paraphernalia and baked goods, such as brownies, muffins, cookies and lollipops that were cooked using marijuana oils/butter.”

Fromelt said that more than 13 pounds of pot was seized and that marijuana cards possessed by the residents allowed them to possess only up to 2.5 ounces each, under the voter-approved Arizona medical marijuana act.

Todd T. Leavitt, 45, and his girlfriend, Erin M. McHarg, 36, were arrested on a variety of marijuana-related and weapons charges.

Fromelt said police seized a 12-gauge shotgun and about $7,000 in cash from the home.
