Metropolitan Police Department identifies officer involved in shooting

The officer who exchanged gunshots with a 23-year-old man Monday was identified as 24-year-old Kelly Holloway, Las Vegas police said Wednesday.

Holloway joined the agency in 2007 as a police cadet. In Sept, 19, 2009, Holloway became an officer.

Holloway is on paid leave pending an internal investigation.

On Monday, Angel Montoya was arrested on charges, including attempted murder, after police said he shot at Holloway. Neither Holloway nor Montoya was hurt.

Montoya was booked into the Clark County jail on charges of attempted murder on a police officer, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of stolen property, three counts of burglary with a deadly weapon, four counts of robbery with a deadly weapon and three counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon.

At 1:40 a.m. Monday, police said, Holloway was dispatched to the 4600 block of East Charleston Boulevard. On the way there, Holloway noticed an altercation outside a business on the 4300 block of East Charleston.

Police said Holloway saw Montoya run toward the back of the business. When the officer exited the patrol car, Montoya shot at Holloway striking the car, police said. Montoya was arrested.

Police said Montoya was committing an armed robbery and was involved in an armed robbery at the business to which the officer was initially dispatched and an armed robbery on the 6300 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard.

A female driver, identified as 20-year-old Mayre Rosales, was stopped near the scene. Police said she was involved in a series of robberies. She was booked on charges of attempted murder of a police officer, three counts of burglary with a deadly weapon, four counts of robbery with a deadly weapon and three counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon.
