New smartphone app directs users to courtrooms

While you're waiting in the security line to enter the Regional Justice Center you might consider installing the new Courtfinder application on your smartphone.

The new application, unveiled by the Eighth Judicial District Court on Tuesday, might be the first of its kind in the country.

The application will help users search via party, attorney or case number to find the date, time and courtroom for a case. The search will also find the name of the judge to apologize to for being late because of that long line outside the courthouse.

The smartphone application, free to download from the Google Play and Apple App stores, was the brainchild of District Judge David Barker.

"This new app will make navigating court schedules much easier and more convenient for attorneys and citizens," he said.

The District Court Information Technology division created the application with input from Barker.

It displays on a daily basis the civil, criminal and family court dockets for Clark County District Court and Las Vegas Justice Court.

Chief Judge Jennifer Togliatti called it a "very significant innovation for our court that I expect will be of interest to courts nationwide.

"Getting newly updated court schedule information out in a timely, easily accessible manner has been a long-standing challenge," Togliatti said.

The application works quickly. Within seconds, users can find their case information.

They then can return to that level of Angry Birds causing them fits, while they inch ever so slowly on the security line to enter the courthouse.
