Officer who shot 7-Eleven robbery suspect identified

Las Vegas police have identified the officer who fired on a man suspected in the robbery of a convenience store on Tuesday.

Steven Lehmann, 34, a three-year veteran, walked into a 7-Eleven about 2 a.m. to find two teens robbing the store. Lehmann told the pair to freeze, and one of them, Lawrence Howard, 19, turned his .38 caliber handgun away from the store clerk and pointed it at the officer, according to police.

Lehmann fired and hit Howard twice. He was hospitalized in critical condition, and police are recommending he be charged with several crimes including robbery with a deadly weapon and assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon.

The second suspect, a 17-year-old whose name was not released, was arrested on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.
