One dead, one jailed in Arizona shooting

KINGMAN, Ariz. - One man is dead and another in jail after a dispute between neighbors escalated into a shooting Thursday in the northwest Arizona community of Golden Valley.

Mohave County sheriff's deputies responded at 5 p.m. to a report of gunfire in the 3700 block of Elgin Road. They discovered gunshot victim Steven Jeffrey Schwartz, 55, lying in the driveway of the residence of his neighbor Phillip Martin, 60, agency spokeswoman Trish Carter said.

Carter said Schwartz implicated Martin in the shooting before he was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Martin was arrested and jailed on first-degree murder charges, she said.

Investigators recovered a shotgun, suspected of being used in the shooting. Detectives were trying to determine what led to the slaying.
