Person fatally shot by police officer in downtown Reno

RENO - A person was fatally shot by a police officer in downtown Reno.

Police offered no immediate details of the shooting that occurred after 3 p.m. Friday near Wingfield Park.

Officers told the Reno Gazette-Journal that some roads in the area, including busy Arlington Avenue, were expected to remain closed to traffic for several hours.

Sparks police were called in to investigate the shooting.

The identity of the person wasn't immediately known.

Jose Gutierrez, 19, already faces two counts of open murder, a count of attempted murder and a count of battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm, according to court records.
