Reno attorney nominated for federal judge
President Barack Obama nominated Reno attorney Miranda Du on Tuesday to serve as a federal judge in Las Vegas.
Her name was forwarded to the U.S. Senate for confirmation.
The Vietnam-born Du, who immigrated to the United States as a child, would be the first Asian-American federal judge in Nevada, said Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., who recommended her to the president. She is a partner in the Reno law firm of McDonald Carano Wilson.
"Miranda Du is an experienced practitioner with extensive litigation experience and a deep understanding of, and dedication to, the Nevada community," Reid said in a news release.
"From a young age, Du has met every challenge she's faced and exemplifies the immigrant success story. I'm confident she'll make an outstanding federal judge, and I look forward to her swift confirmation."
Du, who specialized in complex litigation and employment law, received her law degree in 1994 from the University of California, Berkeley.
If confirmed, she would replace U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt, who took part-time, senior status in May.
