A 40-year-old woman has been charged with murder in the death of her infant son last year.
Las Vegas police arrested Etsegenet "Saba" Welday, 39, Thursday for the death of her son Noah Behre, 13 months. Records show Welday was a fugitive since her warrant was signed in January. She was also charged with child abuse with substantial bodily harm.
Noah died on March 22, 2011, at his mother's apartment at 2655 Red Rock St. in the central valley.
According to her arrest report, Welday failed to seek medical attention for her ailing son. Noah had been vomiting for almost 24 hours and Welday tried to cool his fever by pouring cold water on his head, the report said.
Neighbors said Welday's apartment flooded so badly that the water severely damaged a downstairs unit. Welday, the sole caregiver of two young children, was also seen driving in her vehicle with her daughter but without Noah shortly before his death was reported, the report said.
By the time paramedics were called to the apartment the boy was cold, his lips were blue and he was in full cardiac arrest, the report said.
Welday was booked at Clark County Detention Center. She will appear in court Monday.
