Woman found dead in slaying case identified

A woman found dead in her home Friday from injuries believed to have been inflicted by her husband was identified Monday in a police report as 53-year-old Shaunna Jones.

Jones' husband, Douglas Jones, 57, was charged with murder Saturday.

The report said Shaunna Jones was injured between Dec. 27 and Dec. 28.

Her body was found in her home in the 1000 block of Hammer Lane, near Washburn Road and North Fifth Street, North Las Vegas police said.

Police had already arrested Douglas Jones in connection with the incident.

When interviewed by a police officer the morning of Dec. 28, Shaunna Jones said her husband had caused the bruises on her face and arms. But when Douglas Jones arrived, she changed her story and said she had fallen from bed.

When the officer pressed Shaunna Jones to tell the truth, she told the officer that her husband always beats her up. She said in the last fight, he pushed her to the ground and sat on top of her, repeatedly striking her.

The Clark County coroner's office determined she died from blunt-force trauma to the head.
