KIWANIS CLUB

SIERRA CLUB

The Sierra Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Wengert Room at Nevada Power Co., 6226 W. Sahara Ave. Brandon Rufkahr will present "Hidden Hiking Gems Around Southern Nevada" (732-7750).

LECTURES

Professor Richard Jenkyns of Oxford University will speak on "Is Jane Austen Modern?" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Barrick Museum auditorium at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. The lecture, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the UNLV Great Works Academic Certificate program (895-4187).

Robert Morris, horticulture specialist Nevada Cooperative Extension, will present "The Slow Food Movement in Las Vegas" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Barrick Museum Auditorium at UNLV. The lecture, sponsored by UNLV's College of Liberal Arts and the Dean's Associates, is free and open to the public (895-3401).

ROWC MEETING

The Retired Officers' Wives Club will have its monthly luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Officers Club at Nellis Air Force Base. Reservations are required (657-1196).

NEVADA SENIOR COALITION

The Nevada Senior Coalition will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Boulder Station, 4111 Boulder Highway. Nevada attorney general's representative JoAnne Embry will speak (737-1377).

VOLUNTEER EVENT

The city of Las Vegas will sponsor its second annual Project: Volunteer event at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive. Various nonprofit organizations that are looking for volunteers, especially high school students, will be on hand (229-4645).

BEAD SOCIETY

The Las Vegas Bead Society meets at 6:45 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. (203-4697).

TOASTMASTERS

The To Your Health! Toastmasters Club meets at 12:05 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the Southern Nevada Health District, 625 Shadow Lane (759-1105).

The Speak Easy Toastmasters Club meets at noon the second and fourth Thursday of each month at Gibson Library, 280 S. Water St., Henderson (267-1518).

The Lion's Roar Toastmasters Club meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of each month in the human resources conference room at the MGM Grand, 3799 Las Vegas Blvd. South (256-1699).

DFC MEETING

The Distinguished Flying Cross Society will meet Thursday at Claim Jumper, 1100 S. Fort Apache Road. Reservations are required (452-9522).

PERFORMANCE

A benefit performance will take place Thursday at the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre at the College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., North Las Vegas, to raise funds for the school's performing arts students. A VIP cocktail reception will begin at 6 p.m. followed by an awards presentation at 7:30 and the play "Fences" at 8. Tickets are $100 (651-5483).

SOCIAL CLUB

The Jewish Singles 55 Plus Social Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday. Artist Sharon Shaffer will speak (243-9482 or 451-1735).

DEGREE OF POCAHONTAS
