LECTURE

David Shields of the University of South Carolina will present "The Invention of Hollywood Glamour" at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Barrick Museum auditorium at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. The lecture is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the UNLV College of Liberal Arts and Dean's Associates (895-3401).

CONCERT

The Sun City Silverstones will present "Las Vegas -- Through the Years" at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Starbright Theater, 2215 Thomas Ryan Blvd. The concert is a two-act tribute to Las Vegas entertainers. Tickets are $6 (256-6220, 838-3427 or 242-0400).

FLOWER SHOW

The Sunset Garden Club will have its 16th annual flower show, "A Child's Dream," from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Paseo Vede Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson. Admission is free.

ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL

Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary will have an arts and crafts festival from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 8103 Racel St. The event will include carriage rides and tours of the sanctuary. Admission is $5 for adults. Children 12 and younger are admitted free (645-6808).

UNLV EVENT

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Festival of Communities will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Student Union Pida Plaza, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. The event, sponsored by the UNLV Student Diversity Program and Services, will feature international food tasting, cultural displays of art, dance and music, entertainment and children's activities. Admission is free (491-6165).

NEVADA CHILD SEEKERS

Nevada Ballet Theatre and the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre will host Nevada Child Seekers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the ballet company's facility at 1651 Inner Circle Drive. Nevada Child Seekers will provide information about child safety. Ballet staff also will give tours of the academy (243-2623).

WOMEN'S GROUPS

Beta Sigma Phi City Council will sponsor its annual Founder's Day Celebration at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the Officer's Club at Nellis Air Force Base. Reservations are required (453-2936).

The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary will have its annual fashion show luncheon on Monday at the Gold Coast, 4000 W. Flamingo Road. The event will begin with shopping at 10:30 a.m., followed by a lunch and fashion show. Tickets are $35 (870-4430, ext. 113).

PINOCHLE CLUB

The Las Vegas Pinochle Club meets at 5 p.m. Saturdays at Boulder Cascade Clubhouse. The group is open to new members (338-5770).

VETERANS GROUPS

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Sgt. Manny Peven Post 65, meets at 9:30 a.m. the first Sunday of each month at the clubhouse at Wildhorse Golf Club, 2200 W. Warm Springs Road, Henderson. A brunch is served (307-5306).

The Murray L. Rosen Post of the Jewish War Veterans will have its monthly meeting at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the city of Las Vegas Northwest Leisure Service Center, 3521 W. Durango Drive. Capt. Herb Spiegel will speak about the Coast Guard (256-6439).

MEDITATION

KTS-SW, a nonprofit foundation, will offer meditation to alleviate stress at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Las Vegas Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd. Admission is free (877-633-4828).

BENEFIT

The Jonathan Ogden Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament will begin at noon Monday at the SouthShore Golf Club, 100 Strada Di Circolo in Henderson. A kickoff party will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Pearl at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road. Proceeds will go to the Jonathan Ogden Foundation and the Las Vegas Founders to benefit at-risk children (242-3000).
